The old town city of Dubrovnik is surrounded by a beautiful city wall that encapsulates the old town. The wall itself is several feet across at all points and has a number of turrets and lookout points as it works its way around. There are an incredible number of steps going up and down as you work your way around the top of the city wall, but the views are amazing of both the old town, the surrounding islands, the sea, and other nearby sites. It is a spectacular hike! Additionally - different portions of the wall were used to film Game of Thrones (we specifically started watching it pre-trip, but are only halfway through). I'm going to let the pictures speak for the city wall the rest of the way though - it was really awesome and probably my favorite activity of the trip!
Afterwards we were majorly in need of a recharge (it was about two miles of stairs...Daniel had his running GPS watch going) and we had spotted a restaurant on the way around that looked and smelled fantastic. So we worked our way around the wall and managed to find restaurant - Lady Pi-Pi. Yes. It refers to what you think it refers to...the restaurant was built around a fountain that is a statue of a woman pretty vulgarly revealing her lady parts to pee. Infinitely more bizarre than the manneken pis statue in Brussels. But the food was absolutely delicious. There was an open brick oven to cook the food. The restaurant itself was all open air but had a large trellis overarching the restaurant that had grape vines providing a good bit of cover. When it started drizzling before our meal came the staff came around and issued everyone umbrellas. Really an intriguing concept and was definitely fun. When I went down to change Hannah in the restroom I they actually created a changing area with a blanket and towel and insisted I use their space instead of cramming into the bathroom.

After lunch we headed out of the backside of the walled city and headed to Fort Lovrijenac. Which involved, you guessed it, more steps. But from this point we saw what was the inspiration for Blackwater Bay in Game of Thrones and managed to get a beautifully unique view of the city. There wasn't as much in the fort as we thought there would be, but the views were fantastic. We were beat. We headed back to the villa to crash.

We evaluated what time we had left and decided we had just enough time to hike down to the beach and then come back to clean up and grab one last dinner in old town. After miles and miles of steps somehow we decided to cap off the today with..more steps. Haha. We grossly underestimated how many steps were between the main path and the extra decent down tot he beach...but we made it. and quickly dipped into the Adriatic before the squall on the horizon made it our way. Hannah dipped her feet in the Adriatic - so her first sea or major body of water was the Adriatic Sea! I thought she might scream because the water was so chilly, but no...she just looked inquisitive. This child is a water baby. She spent the time watching the surf from the shore in her daddy's arms while Meredith, Tom, and I swam around and enjoyed the crisp, chilly, incredibly clear water. We hopped out just as the storm was making its way in and then hiked the endless steps back up to our villa.

We enjoyed a tasty dinner in old town and one last round of gelato before calling it a night and wrapping up our final night in Dubvovnik. Hopefully the pictures with fill in the gaps - it was an awesome day, one of the best of the trip!
