First of all...I am super crazy indebted to Pam Hals for watching Hannah on the ship and letting me enjoy the hiking excursion! I really enjoyed getting out and hiking with Daniel as well as getting to spend uninterrupted time chatting with Michael, Stephanie, and Gary too!
The hike was awesome. Strenuous and challenging in all the fun ways. The landscape was awesome - it changed multiple times from seemingly normal edge of the forest, to an intensely mossy landscape, to lush trees, to steep and craggy bedrock, to glacier and an ice cave! I'm gonna let the pictures speak for me on most of this. But overall, we loved the guides, loved the landscape, and the whole hike felt like I was spending eight hours exploring a big adult jungle gym. The greatest challenge and looming pressure was that we were very tight on time. We disembarked at 7:30, got to the site at 8...and had from 8 to 3:30 to gear up, do an 8 hour hike and drive the 20 minutes back to the boat (yes, if you do the math, we didn't have 8 hours...). So...we booked it while still having a great time and we were very lucky - we had a great group of youthful people who were all determined to get to enjoy the glacier and ice cave and the camaraderie of the group was a lot of fun. After the hike we really pushed it to make sure we got back in time - we even de-geared in the van to make sure we made it back and just squeaked in!
